Charlotte companies are starting to restore pay hikes

After almost two years of treading water through the worst recession in decades, there’s good news for some cash-strapped employees: Raises are returning.

Companies around the Charlotte region slashed pay and eliminated merit increases last year as the economy chipped away at their bottom lines, leaving even the employees lucky enough to keep their jobs struggling to stay afloat.

To the left or to the right?

Still don’t know?

were shown this picture and asked the same question.
90% of the pre-schoolers gave this answer.

“The bus is traveling to the left.”

When asked, “Why do you think the bus is traveling to the left?”

Because you can’t see the door to get on the bus.”

We Are Going To Protect The Classroom!

You’ll probably hear this a lot over the next few months as school boards across the state deal with lower revenue than in previous years. Yet, what does it mean?

What doesn’t affect the classroom? Lower the heat in winter? Raise the temperature in hot weather? Less money for classroom supplies? Fewer teachers? Less maintenance and/or housekeeping? All have impact.
So, how do you decide? Follow along in the process as the Rock Hill School Superintendent tells the school board and community on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 – 5:30 pm, Rawlinson Road Middle School Auditorium. Maybe you will find an opportunity to participate as well.

Greg Gregory, "Restructure now to save our state"

Saturday’s Rock Hill Herald has a To The Contrary post from former SC State Senator Greg Gregory on the inefficiencies of our state government. A piece of that involved public education.

He is right!
Now is the time to change the way our state government operates so we can prepare for the 21st century. We also need to revisit our (and every other state’s) method of operating schools. School districts, school boards, and many superintendents are an inefficient way to run an organization. In theory it should produce innovation, but in practice, it protects the status quo and drives up costs. Our city, county, state, and country is facing a financial crisis. Now is the time to become world class. Support the first step – revisit the way we conduct business at all levels of government.

Eagles try to remain hot against VMI despite weather

Winthrop coach Randy Peele and the Winthrop coaching staff made a grocery run in the wee hours Friday morning just in case the winter weather left the team stranded at their hotel. They found the shelves at the local Walmart had already been picked through and were nearly void of staple items.
